Wishing everyone a very Happy Republic Day..!!

As many of you would be aware, Republic Day marks the date when our Indian Constitution came into effect. India was already an independent country but it was declared a Republic nation on 26th January 1950 with the adoption of Constitution which also replaced the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of our country. 26th January 1930 was celebrated as Purna Swaraj Day and hence this date was picked for adoption of the constitution.  Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India.
Republic Day celebrations are a 3 - day affair in our country and it concludes with a Beating Retreat ceremony on 29th January. It involves performance by bands of the three wings of the military, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air force. ‘Abide With Me’, which is a Christian Hymn is played at the Republic Day Parade. It is believed to be one of Mahatma Gandhi's favourite. Prime Minister places a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti as a mark of respect to the thousands of soldiers of the country who had died fighting for the Indian Independence.
