Quant Quiz

Q1)-Present ages of Kiran and Syam are in the ratio of 5:4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11:9 respectively. What is Syam's present age in years?
28
27
26
24
Ans.- D
Ratio of the present age of Kiran and Syam =5:4
Let present age of Kiran =5x
Present age of Syam =4x
After 3 years, ratio of their ages =11:9
⇒(5x+3):4x+3)=11:9
⇒9(5x+3)=11(4x+3)
⇒45x+27=44x+33
⇒x=33−27=6
Syam's present age =4x=4×6=24

Q2)-Two pipes A and B together can fill a cistern in 4 hours. Had they been opened separately, then B would have taken 6 hours more than A to fill the cistern. How much time will be taken by A to fill the cistern separately?
6 hours
2 hours
4 hours
3 hours
Ans.- A
Suppose pipe A alone can fill the cistern in x hours.
Then pipe B alone can fill the cistern in (x+6) hours.
{x(x+6)/{x+x+6)}=4
x=6

Q3)-When tossing two coins once, what is the probability of heads on both the coins?
1/2
1/4
3/4
None of these
Ans.- B
Total number of outcomes possible when a coin is tossed = 2 (∵ Head or Tail)
Hence, total number of outcomes possible when two coins are tossed, n(S) = 2 × 2 = 4
(∵ Here, S = {HH, HT, TH, TT})
E = event of getting heads on both the coins = {HH}
Hence, n(E) = 1
P(E)=n(E)/n(S)=1/4

Q4)-An error 2% in excess is made while measuring the side of a square. What is the percentage of error in the calculated area of the square?
4.04%
2.02%
2%
4%
Ans.- A
Percentage error in calculated area=( 2 + 2 + (2 x 2)/100)%=4.04%

Q5)-A library has an average of 510 visitors on Sundays and 240 on other days. What is the average number of visitors per day in a month of 30 days beginning with a Sunday?
290
304
285
270
Ans.- C
In a month of 30 days beginning with a Sunday, there will be 4 complete weeks and another two days which will be Sunday and Monday.
Hence there will be 5 Sundays and 25 other days in a month of 30 days beginning with a Sunday
Average visitors on Sundays = 510
Total visitors of 5 Sundays = 510 × 5
Average visitors on other days = 240
Total visitors of other 25 days = 240 × 25
Total visitors = (510 × 5) + (240 × 25)
Total days = 30
Average number of visitors per day = (510 x 5) + (240 x 25 ) / 30
= 285

Q6)-A vendor bought bananas at 6 for a rupee. How many for a rupee must he sell to gain 20%?
3
4
5
6
Ans.- C
CP of 6 bananas = 1
Gain = 20%
SP of 6 bananas=1 x 120/100 = 12/10
The number of bananas he should sell for RS 1 for a gain of 20 % = 10/12 x 6 =10/2

Q7)-The banker's discount of a certain sum of money is Rs. 36 and the true discount on the same sum for the same time is Rs. 30. What is the sum due?
Rs. 180
Rs. 120
Rs. 220
Rs. 200
Ans.- A
F = BD x TD / (BD- TD) = 36 x 30 / (36-30)
=36 x 5 = Rs 180

Q8)-A man buys a scooter for Rs. 1400 and sells it at a loss of 15%. What is the selling price of the scooter?
Rs 1240
RS 1190
RS 1090
RS 1130
Ans.- B
SP= 1400 x 85/100 = 1190

Q9)-At a game of billiards, A can give B 15 points in 60 and A can give C to 20 points in 60. How many points can B give C in a game of 90?
22 points
20 points
12 points
10 points
Ans.- D
"A can give 15 points to B in 60".
=> In a game of 60, A starts with 0 points where B starts with 15 points
"A can give 20 points to C in 60"
=> In a game of 60, A starts with 0 points where C starts with 20 points
ie, in a game of 60-15-45, B can give C 20-15=5 points
=> ie, in a game of 90, B can give C 5×2=10 points
