English VOCAB list

Retreat : The act of withdrawing or going backward (especially to escape something hazardous or unpleasant)
Example:   the disorderly retreat of Pakistani troops in Kargil war.

Chicanery  : the use of tricks to deceive someone (usually to extract money from them).
Synonyms: chicane, guile, trickery, wile
Example:  You can smell the chicanery from a dishonest politician like Lalu And Mulayam.

Exuberant (Adj): energetic
Synonyms:enthusiastic, buoyant
Example:  He emerged as the focus of interest for a large, exuberant crowd of loiterers.


Saddled (Adj)stuck
Synonyms: baffled,caught
Example:  They found that all the horses in the stable were saddled and bridled for use


Barrage : weapon fire
Synonyms:bombardment, volley
Example:  Meanwhile our entire front was advancing, following the barrage waves.


Impetus : stimulus
Synonyms: impulse, catalyst
Example:  This question arises, no doubt, from the comparison of life to an impetus.


Exhilaration  : a feeling of excitement, happiness, or elation
Synonyms: exultation, exaltation, joy, happiness, delight
Example:   Indian army felt exhilaration of wining kargil war.


Soggy (adj) : very wet and soft.
Synonyms: pappy, slushy, sloppy
Example:   cotton is very soggy unlike wood.


Opulent (Adj): luxurious
Synonyms: extravagant,ostentatious
Example:  There was poetry of an opulent, resonant sort in the brave show.


Deprecate : belittle
Synonyms: condemn, derogate
Example:  I deprecate the vice of excessive novel-reading in young persons
