Q6)-Pratap invests a certain sum of money in Bank A for a period of 5 year and gets Rs 3800 as simple interest. After that he withdraws the amount and invests in Bank B for 10 year which provides double the rate of interest as provided by Bank A. From Bank B, he gets Rs 30400 as simple interest. Find the sum of money invested in Bank A.
Rs 3800
Rs 7600
Rs 38000
Can't be determined
Ans.- A
Let amount invested by Pratap be Rs x at r% per annum in Bank A.
So, (x * r * 5)/100 = 3800
=> xr = 3800 x 100/5 = 76000 ---(i)
In Bank B, he invests Rs (x + 3800) at a rate of 2r% per annum.
So, [(x + 3800) * 2r * 10] /100 = 30400
=> (x + 3800)r = 30400 * 5
=> xr + 3800r = 152000
=> 76000 + 3800r = 152000 ['.' xr = 76000]
=> 3800r = 152000 - 76000 = 76000
=> r = 20
Now, From (i),we have:
xr = 76000
=> x = 76000/20 = 3800
The amount invested by Pratap in Bank A is Rs 3800.

Q7)-The ratio of the ages of A and B is 4 : 3 respectively. The ratio of their ages eight years from now will be 6 : 5 respectively. How old was A, when B was 7 years old ?
16 years
9 years
11 years
10 years
Ans.- C
Let the present ages of A and B be 4x and 3x respectively.
The ratio of their ages after eight years,
(4x + 8)/(3x + 8) = 6/5
=> 5(4x + 8) = 6(3x + 8)
=> 20x + 40 = 18x + 48
=> 2x = 8
=> x = 4
So, the present ages of A and B are 16 years and 12 years respectively.
When B was 7 years old i.e. 5 years ago, age of A was 16 - 5 = 11 years.

Q8)-18 men and 24 women can complete a piece of work in 16 days. All of them started working for 12 days, the women stopped working together. 12 men completed the remaining work in 9 days. How many days will it take for completing the entire job if only 24 women are put on the job?
48 days
24 days
32 days
40 days
Ans.- A
Amount of work done by 18 men and 24 women in 12 days = 12 * 1/16 = 3/4
Remaining work = 1 - 3/4 = 1/4
Now, 12 men completed 1/4th of work in 9 days.
So, 18 men can complete the entire work in (9 * 12 * 4)/18 = 24 days.
Given, part of work completed by 18 men and 24 women in 1 day = 1/16
So, part of work completed by 24 women in 1 day = 1/16 - 1/24 = 1/48
24 women together can complete the work in 48 days.

Q9)-A, B and C agree to receive profit from their business, each in proportion to his investment. B and C put back into the business their share of the profit each year, but A does not. Initially, A invests Rs. 20000, B Rs. 10000 and C Rs. 5000. If the profit for the first year is Rs. 14000 and for the second year is Rs. 20500. Calculate the ratio of investment of the money, each has during the third year.
39 : 40 : 8
40 : 34 : 17
20 : 14 : 17
40 : 42 : 21
Ans.- D
Ratio of investment of A, B and C for the 1st year = 20000 : 10000 : 5000 = 4 : 2 : 1
B's profit at the end of the 1st year = 14000 * 2/7 = Rs 4000
C's profit at the end of the 1st year = 14000 * 1/7 = Rs 2000
Ratio of investment of A, B and C for the 2nd year = 20000 : (10000 + 4000) : (5000 + 2000) = 20000 : 14000 : 7000 = 20 : 14 : 7
B's profit at the end of the 2nd year = 20500 * 14/41 = Rs 7000
C's profit at the end of the 2nd year = 20500 * 7/41 = Rs 3500

Ratio of investment of A, B and C for the 3rd year = 20000 : (14000 + 7000) : (7000 + 3500) = 20000 : 21000 : 10500 = 40 : 42 : 21

Q10)-Arushi rides her bike at an average speed of 30 km/hr and reaches her destination in 6 hours. Hemant covers the same distance in 4 hours. If Arushi increases her average speed by 10 km/hr and Hemant increases his average speed by 5 km/hr, what would be the difference in their time taken to reach the destination?
54 minutes
90 minutes
40 minutes
45 minutes
Ans.- A
Distance = 30 * 6 = 180 km
Speed of Hemant = 180/4 km/h = 45 km/h
Time taken by Arushi after increasing the average speed = 180/(30 + 10) = 4.5 hours
Time taken by Hemant after increasing the average speed = 180/(45 + 5) = 3.6 hours
The required difference = (4.5 - 3.6) hours = 0.9 hours = 0.9 * 60 minutes = 54 minutes.
