Quant Quiz

Q1)-The difference between 20% of a number and 4/5th of the same number is 2499. What is 2/7th of that number?
2156
1190
1090
1465
Ans.- B
Let that number is X.
Then from the question,
(4/5) * X - (20/100) * X = 2499
⇒ (3/5) * X = 2499
⇒ X = 2499 * 5/3 = 4165
So, 2/7th of that number = (2/7) * 4165 = 1190

Q2)-In a test, minimum passing percentage for girls and boys is 30% and 45% respectively. A boy scored 280 marks and failed by 80 marks. How many more marks did a girl require to pass in the test if she scored 108 marks?
132
140
160
112
Ans.- A
Let X be the maximum marks.
So, from the question,
X * (45/100) = 280 + 80
⇒ X = 360 * (100/45) = 800
Passing marks for girls = 800 * (30/100) = 240
.'. Hence, (240 - 108) = 132 more marks did a girl require to pass in the test.

Q3)-The average speed of a car is (5/7)th of that of a bus. The bus covers 750 km. in 10 hours. How much distance (in km.) will the car cover in 7 hours?
375
285
365
295
Ans.- A
Average speed of the bus = total distance / total time = 750/10 = 75 kmph
So, speed of the car = (5/7) * 75 = (375/7) kmph
Hence, distance covered by the car in 7 h = speed x time = (375/7) * 7 = 375 km

Q4)-The cost of diamond varies directly as the square of its weight. Once, this diamond broke into four pieces with weights in the ratio 1 : 2 : 3 : 4. When the pieces were sold, the merchant got Rs. 70,000 less. Find the original price of the diamond.
Rs. 1.4 lakh
Rs. 2 lakh
Rs. 1.4 lakh
Rs. 1 lakh
Ans.- D

Q5)-The value of a machine depreciates at the rate of 12 per cent per annum. It was purchased 3 years ago. Its present value is Rs. 29,644.032/-, what was the purchase price of the machine?
Rs. 48,700/-
Rs. 43,500/-
Rs. 38,900/-
Rs. 39,000/-
Ans.- B

Q6)-The sum invested in scheme B is twice the sum invested in scheme A. Investment in scheme A is made for 3 years at 8% p.a. simple interest and in Scheme B for 2 years at 9% p.a. simple interest. The total interest earned from both the schemes is Rs. 1800. How much was invested in Scheme A?
Rs. 4000
Rs. 3500
Rs. 3000
Rs. 2500
Ans.- C
From the question,
B = 2A
The total interest earned from both the schemes = Rs. 1800
So, (A * 3 * 8)/100 + (B * 2 * 9)/100 = 1800
⇒ 24A/100 + (2A * 18)/100 = 1800
⇒ 24A + 36A = 180000
⇒ 60A = 180000
⇒ A = 180000/60 = 3000

Q7)-10 men can complete a work in 8 days. 20 women can complete the same work in 6 days. In how many days 16 men and 18 women together can complete the same piece of work?
2/7
3/2
12/5
20/7
Ans.- D
Work done by 10 men in one day = 1/8
So, work done by 1 man in one day = 1/(8 * 10) = 1/80
Work done by 20 women in one day = 1/6
So, Work done by 1 woman in one day = 1/(6 * 20) = 1/120
Thus, work done by 16 men and 18 women together in one day
= 16/80 + 18/120 = 1/5 + 3/20 = (4 + 3)/20 = 7/20
Therefore, 16 men and 18 women together can complete the same piece of work = 20/7

Q8)-Prem and Shyam decide to go on a trip to Point Y on a particular day from Point X. Prem leaves for Point Y at 11:00 am at a speed of 72 kmph. Shyam leaves for Point Y at 11:30 the same day as Prem left. At what speed should Shyam travel to catch up with Prem in 4 hours? (in kmph)
85
81
80
82
Ans.- B
Distance covered by Prem in half an hour = 72 * (1/2) = 36 km
Let after x km shyam catch up with Prem and S be the speed of the shyam
So, x km covered by prem = 4 * 72
So, from the question,
So, in 4 hour shyam has to cover = (36 + x) = 36 + 4 * 72
So, speed of the shyam = (36 + 4 * 72)/4 = 81 kmph

Q9)-In how many different ways can the letters of the word DESIGN be arranged so that the vowels are at the two ends?
48
72
36
24
Ans.- A
In word DESIGN, there are two vowels i.e. E and I, which can be arranged in 2! Ways.
And 4 consonant can be arranged in 4! Ways.
So, total no of ways = 4! x 2! = 24 x 2 = 48

Q10)-A box contains 14 eggs out of which 8 are rotten. Two eggs are chosen at random. What is the probability that none of the chosen eggs is rotten?
5/23
10/23
12/91
15/91
Ans.- D
