Quant Quiz - Age Ratio

Q1)-Father is aged three times more than his son Ronit. After 8 years, he would be two and a half times of Ronit's age. After further 8 years, how many times would he be of Ronit's age?
2 times
2(1/2) times
2(3/4) times
3 times
Ans.- A

Let Ronit's present age be x years. Then, father's present age =(x + 3x) years = 4x years.
(4x + 8) =5/2(x+8)
x = 8
Hence required ratio=48/24=2

Q2)-Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand's present age in years?
21
24
40
Cannot be determined
Ans.- B

Let the present ages of Sameer and Anand be 5x years and 4x years respectively.
Then, (5x + 3)/(4x + 3) = 11/9
9(5x + 3) = 11(4x + 3)
45x + 27 = 44x + 33
45x - 44x = 33 - 27
x = 6.
Anand's present age = 4x = 24 years.

Q3)-The ratio between the present ages of P and Q is 6:7. If Q is 4 years old than P, what will be the ratio of the ages of P and Q after 4 years
7:8
7:9
3:8
5:8
Ans.- A

Let P age and Q age is 6x years and 7x years. Then 7x - 6x = 4 <=> x = 4
So required ratio will be (6x+4): (7x+4)
=> 28:32
=> 7:8

Q4)-Ten years ago, P was half of Q in age. If the ratio of their present ages is 3:4, what will be the total of their present ages
25
30
35
45
Ans.- C

Let the present age of P and Q be 3x and 4x respectively.
Ten years ago, P was half of Q in age => 2(3x – 10) = (4x – 10)
=> 6x – 20 = 4x – 10
=> 2x = 10
=> x = 5

Q5)-The ages of two persons differ by 20 years. If 5 years ago, the elder one be 5 times as old as the younger one, their present ages (in years) are respectively
20,20
20,10
25,15
30,10
Ans.- D

Let their ages be x and (x + 20) years.
5 (x - 5) = (x + 20 - 5) or 4x = 40 or x = 10.
Their present ages are 30 years and 10 years

Q6)-Sushil was thrice as old as Snehal 6 years back. Sushil will be times as old as Snehal 6 years hence. How old is Snehal today
12
16
18
24
Ans.- A

Let Snehals age 6 years back = x.
Then, Sushils age 6 years back = 3x.
(5/3) * (X + 6 + 6) = (3X + 6 + 6)
So 5(x+ 12) = 3(3x+ 12),
so x=6. Snehal Age = (x+ 6) years = 12 years

Q7)-What is John’s present age, if after 10 years his age will be 5 times his age 5 years back.
6.2 years
7.7 years
8.7 years
10 years
Ans.- C

Let John’s present age be x
John’s age before 5 years = (x - 5)
John’s age after 10 years = (x + 10)
We are given that, John’s age after 10 years (x + 10) is 5 times his age 5 years back (x – 5)
Therefore, (x + 10) = 5 (x – 5)
Solving the equation, we get
x + 10 = 5x – 25
4x = 35
x = 8.75 years

Q8)-The total age of A and B is 12 years more than the total age of B and C. C is how many years younger than A ?
12
14
16
13
Ans.- A

(A+B) - (B+C) = 12
A - C = 12.
C is younger than A by 12 years.

Q9)-Six years ago Anita was P times as old as Ben was. If Anita is now 17 years old, how old is Ben now in terms of P ?
11/P + 6
P/11 +6
17 - P/6
17/P
Ans.- A

Let Ben’s age now be B
Anita’s age now is A.
(A - 6) = P(B - 6)
But A is 17 and therefore 11 = P(B - 6)
11/P = B-6
(11/P) + 6 = B

Q10)-If two times of the daughter’s age in years is included to the mother’s age, the total is 70 and if two times of the mother’s age is included to the daughter’s age, the total is 95. So the Mother’s age is,
30 years
38 years
40 years
41 years
Ans.- C

Let daughter’s age = A and mother’s age = B
Given:
2A+B = 70 and,
A+2B = 95
Solving B, we will get B = 40.
