Quant Quiz

Q1)-The average monthly expenditure of Mr.Ravi’s family for the first three months is Rs 2,750, for the next three months is Rs 2,940 and for the last three months Rs 3,150. If his family saves Rs 4980 for nine months, find the average monthly income of the family for the 9 months?
Rs. 3800
Rs. 3500
Rs. 3400
Rs. 4200
Ans.- B

Average monthly expenditure for 3 months = Rs. 2750
Total expenditure for 3 months = Rs 2750 x 3 = Rs. 8250
Average monthly expenditure for 3 months = Rs. 2940
Total expenditure for 3 months = Rs 2940 x 3 = Rs. 8820
Average monthly expenditure for 3 months = Rs. 3150
Total expenditure for 3 months = Rs 3150 x 3 = Rs. 9450
Total savings for 9 months = 4980
Average monthly income for 9 months = (8250 + 8820 + 9450 + 4980)/9 = 3500

Q2)-A man is 24 years older than his son. In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son. What is the present age of his son?
23 years
22 years
21 years
20 years
Ans.- B

Let present age of the son =x years
Then, present age the man =(x+24) years
Given that, in 2 years, man's age will be twice the age of his son
⇒(x+24)+2=2(x+2)⇒x=22

Q3)-The average weight of 16 boys in a class is 50.25 kg and that of the remaining 8 boys is 45.15 kg. Find the average weights of all the boys in the class
48.55
42.25
50
51.25
Ans.- A

Average weight of 16 boys = 50.25
Total weight of 16 boys = 50.25 × 16
Average weight of remaining 8 boys = 45.15
Total weight of remaining 8 boys = 45.15 × 8
Total weight of all boys in the class = (50.25 × 16)+ (45.15 × 8)
Total boys = 16 + 8 = 24
Average weight of all the boys= {(50.25 x 16) + ( 45.15 x 8) }/ 24= 48.55

Q4)-Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank from empty to full in 30 minutes, 20 minutes, and 10 minutes respectively. When the tank is empty, all the three pipes are opened. A, B and C discharge chemical solutions P,Q and R respectively. What is the proportion of the solution R in the liquid in the tank after 3 minutes?
6/11
5/11
7/11
8/11
Ans.- A
Ratio of water filled by A,B,C per minute
= 1/30 : 1/20 : 1/10 = 2 : 3 : 6
Proportion of R any time = 6 / (2 + 3 + 6 ) = 6/11

Q5)-What is the probability of getting a number less than 4 when a die is rolled?
1/2
1/6
1/3
1/4
Ans.- A
Total number of outcomes possible when a die is rolled = 6 (∵ any one face out of the 6 faces)
i.e., n(S) = 6
E = Getting a number less than 4 = {1, 2, 3}
Hence, n(E) = 3
P(E) = n(E)/ n(S) = 3/6= 1/2

Q6)-A man buys a scooter for Rs. 1400 and sells it at a loss of 15%. What is the selling price of the scooter?
Rs. 1240
Rs. 1190
Rs. 1090
Rs. 1130
Ans.- B
SP = 1400 x 85/100 = 1190

Q7)-Mr. Ravi’s family has 10 males and a few females, the average monthly consumption of rice per head is 8 kg. If the average monthly consumption of rice per head be 10 kg in the case of males and 6 kg in the case of females, find the number of females in Ravi’s family?
2
4
6
10
Ans.- D
Let number of females be x.
(10*10+x*6)/(10+x) = 8
=> x = 10

Q8)-A train running at the speed of 60 km/hr crosses a pole in 9 seconds. What is the length of the train?
120 metres
180 metres
324 metres
150 metres
Ans.- D
Speed = ( 60 x 5/18) m/sec = 50/3 m/sec
Length of the train = Speed x time
Length of the train = ( 50/3 x 9)m = 150 m

Q9)-On selling 17 balls at Rs. 720, there is a loss equal to the cost price of 5 balls. What is the cost price of a ball?
Rs 43
Rs 60
Rs 55
Rs 34
Ans.- B
Loss = (CP of 17 balls) - (SP of 17 balls) = (CP of 17 balls) - 720
Given that Loss = (CP of 5 balls)
=> (CP of 17 balls) - 720 = (CP of 5 balls)
=> (CP of 17 balls) - (CP of 5 balls) = 720
=> CP of 12 balls = 720
CP of 1 ball = 720/12 = 60

Q10)-A alone can do a piece of work in 6 days and B alone in 8 days. A and B undertook to do it for Rs. 3200. With the help of C, they completed the work in 3 days. How much is to be paid to C?
Rs. 375
Rs. 400
Rs. 600
Rs. 800
Ans.- B
C's 1 day's work = 1/3 - ( 1/6 + 1/8) = 1/24
A's wages : B's wages : C's wages = 1/6 : 1/8 : 1/24 = 4 : 3 : 1
C's share ( for 3 days ) = Rs ( 3 x 1/24 x 3200) = Rs 400
