Quant Quiz

Q1)-A train 240 m long passes a pole in 24 seconds. How long will it take to pass a platform 650 m long?
65 sec
89 sec
100 sec
150 sec
Ans.- B
Speed = (240/24) m/sec = 10 m/sec
Required time = [(240+650)/10] sec = 89 sec

Q2)-A can finish a work in 18 days and B can do the same work in 15 days. B worked for 10 days and left the job. In how many days, A alone can finish the remaining work?
5
6
7
8
Ans.- B
B's 10 day's work = (1/5 x 10 ) = 2/3
Remaining work = ( 1 - 2/3 ) = 1/3
Now, 1/18 work is done by A in 1 day.
1/3 work is done by A in ( 18 x 1/3 ) = 6 days

Q3)-A sum fetched a total simple interest of Rs. 4016.25 at the rate of 9 p.c.p.a. in 5 years. What is the sum?
Rs. 4462.50
Rs. 8032.50
Rs. 8900
Rs. 8925
Ans.- D
Principal = Rs [(100 x 4016.25)/ ( 9 x 5) ]
= Rs 8925

Q4)-The cost price of 20 articles is the same as the selling price of x articles. If the profit is 25%, then the value of x is:
15
16
18
20
Ans.- B
Let C.P. of each article be Re. 1 C.P. of x articles = Rs. x.
S.P. of x articles = Rs. 20.
Profit = Rs. (20 - x).
[{(20 - x) / x } x 100 = 25 ]
125x = 2000
x = 16

Q5)-In a certain store, the profit is 320% of the cost. If the cost increases by 25% but the selling price remains constant, approximately what percentage of the selling price is the profit?
30%
70%
100%
250%
Ans.- B
Let C.P.= Rs. 100. Then, Profit = Rs. 320, S.P. = Rs. 420.
New C.P. = 125% of Rs. 100 = Rs. 125
New S.P. = Rs. 420.
Profit = Rs. (420 - 125) = Rs. 295.
Required Percentage = [ 295/ 420 x 100 ] % = 1475/21 % = 70 % ( approximately).

Q6)-Excluding stoppages, the speed of a bus is 54 kmph and including stoppages, it is 45 kmph. For how many minutes does the bus stop per hour?
9
10
12
20
Ans.- B
Due to stoppages, it covers 9 km less.
Time taken to cover 9 km = { (9/54) x 60 } min = 10 min

Q7)-A, B, C subscribe Rs. 50,000 for a business. A subscribes Rs. 4000 more than B and B Rs. 5000 more than C. Out of a total profit of Rs. 35,000, A receives:
Rs. 8400
Rs. 11,900
Rs. 13,600
Rs. 14,700
Ans.- D
Let C = x.
Then, B = x + 5000 and A = x + 5000 + 4000 = x + 9000.
So, x + x + 5000 + x + 9000 = 50000
3x = 36000
x = 12000
A : B : C = 21000 : 17000 : 12000 = 21 : 17 : 12.
A's share = Rs. [ 35000 x 21/50 ] = Rs 14700

Q8)-What percentage of numbers from 1 to 70 have 1 or 9 in the unit's digit?
11
12
14
20
Ans.- D
Clearly, the numbers which have 1 or 9 in the unit's digit, have squares that end in the digit 1. Such numbers from 1 to 70 are 1, 9, 11, 19, 21, 29, 31, 39, 41, 49, 51, 59, 61, 69.
Number of such number =14
Required percentage = (14/70 x 100 ) % = 20 %

Q9)-A is two years older than B who is twice as old as C. If the total of the ages of A, B and C be 27, the how old is B?
7
8
9
10
Ans.- D
Let C's age be x years. Then, B's age = 2x years. A's age = (2x + 2) years.
(2x + 2) + 2x + x = 27
5x = 25
x = 5.
Hence, B's age = 2x = 10 years.

Q10)-The average of 20 numbers is zero. Of them, at the most, how many may be greater than zero?
1
0
10
19
Ans.- D
Average of 20 numbers = 0.
Sum of 20 numbers (0 x 20) = 0.
It is quite possible that 19 of these numbers may be positive and if their sum is a then 20th number is (-a).
